Emenyonu, Martin Uchenna is an experienced Maritime Professional and Ocean Expert. He is the Founder and Project Contact Person for the African Youths Sustainable Ocean Campaign (AYSOC ID 215) endorsed by IOC-UNESCO as a United Nations Ocean Decade project, a multi-country initiative with the core mandate to mentor and raise the ocean literacy consciousness of African youths as well as the need for sustainable ocean economy development.
He is a member of the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) Africa, Nigeria node. He has a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Maritime Management Technology (FUTO), a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Maritime Economics and Finance (FUTO), and currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Maritime Management Technology, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Imo State Nigeria. His current research is on developing a maritime security risks model for Blue Economy Development in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.
He is the Founder/Director, Center for Blue Economy Research and Development Nigeria Ltd./Gte, a non-governmental and pro-sustainable development, pro-innovation, and maritime governance Centre of excellence, with the core objectives of promoting and advocating for sustainable blue economy development, maritime security governance, Ocean literacy, and climate change awareness in Nigeria and Africa at large through research, documentation, policy dialogues, workshops, and consultancy services. He is the CEO of Pairwise Integrated Services, an outfit for providing maritime logistics services and consultancy.
He is a published author, and his research interest spans sustainable blue economy, energy transition, Indigenous peoples and Coastal communities’ inclusion in blue economy development, climate change, marine pollution, inland waterways development, maritime security, risk assessment, and shipping decarbonization.
Over the years, he has acquired trainings and certifications in relevant blue Economy and Sustainable Ocean courses, stated as follows; Trained and Certified by the UNESCO/IOC Project Office for IODE and the University of Ghana (ISO 29990) in Earth Observation Data and Techniques for Fisheries Management using Python Programming, Trained and Certified by UNCTAD Port Management Programme/TRAINFORTRADE with the support of Irish Aid and the United Nations Development Account in Building Ports Resilience Against Pandemics, Trained and Certified by the James Michel Blue Economy Research Institute, University of Seychelles, and the Commonwealth of Learning on The Blue Economy: Blue Space, Trained and Certified by the UNESCO/IOC Project Office for IODE and IOC/UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe on Educating about the Ocean: Waves of Change, Trained and Certified by the James Michel Blue Economy Research Institute, University of Seychelles, and the Commonwealth of Learning on The Blue Economy: Blue Resources, Trained and Certified by The James Michel Blue Economy Research Institute, University of Seychelles, and the Commonwealth of Learning on The Blue Economy- Sustainability, Innovation, and our Ocean.
